Trailing just 3 points behind Josh Greedy (Wales), FOX Youngster Carl Ostermann entered not only the final of the AXUK Arenacross Series in Sheffield and but also the fight for third place in the overall ranking. Then after just two races on Friday, with Carl finishing third on the fast track, the gap was closed, leaving him with a two-point lead. On Saturday’s more technically demanding track, which had been rebuilt overnight, Carl’s speed increased and he ended up winning the first race on Saturday. After a missed start in the second race his performance was only enough for 3rd place, but in the overall standings, the promoted rider, and by far the youngest starter of the junior class, secured his deserved third place with a lead of 11 points over fourth-placed Josh Greedy. First place went to Ben Clayton ahead of Adam Collings (both UK).
Carl after the award ceremony:
That was an almost perfect final. I knew that I could make it to the podium if I didn’t make any mistakes and kept my speed consistent. I was annoyed about the missed start in the second final race on Saturday. I had the fastest lap times and wanted to win. But that’s already forgotten and I’m really happy that I made it to the podium in my first year in the AXUK Rookie Cup.
Carl has improved in the championship from race to race and has also won step by step more self-confidence. The switch to the SX2 class was more than successful and the decision to complete it at the end of the 2018/2019 SX season was fully confirmed. But the work continues immediately. After a recovery phase of 3 weeks the preparation for the SX2 season 2019/2010 and with it the desired step into the professional class starts.
